India celebrates National Doctors’ Day on 1st of July ever year to commemorate the birth and death anniversary of the great physician Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy. In spite of being elected Chief Minister of West Bengal, he religiously practiced medicine till the last of his breath. Those have never given doctors a second thought have now come to realize their importance and dedication to save the mankind.
As the Corona pandemic takes a toll most of us are staying home and maintaining physical distancing to save our own lives. But it is the doctors’ and his team of medicos, who have risked themselves to do whatever they can to save us from the COVID-19 virus. It is time we took a pause to appreciate the efforts that doctors’ make to ensure that we sufficiently recover from whatever may be ailing us and continue to remain healthy.
Doctors’ are our real-life heroes. Remember when you last said thanks to him. Rather most of us hold the doctors’ responsible when anything goes wrong with the patient. Instances of doctors being manhandled, have been on a rise in the recent years. Beating up doctors’ and hospital staff seems to be the favorite pastime of many. But doctors’ have taken everything in a stride and risen to the cause again and again.
Many doctors’ and para medical staff have laid their lives while trying to treat COVID-19 patients. Many more are infected and quarantined. The doctors’ working in specified COVID hospitals have not met their family for months. They are suffering not only physically inside the PPEs but also going though emotional crisis. Their family is just praying and waiting for their safe return home.
Now is the time we learn to appreciate the role of not only doctors but the whole medical fraternity, who give up everything for our wellbeing.
