A bulge in the abdomen after delivering a baby may last longer in some women, especially, if the baby has been delivered by LSCS. Most women want to get back into shape as soon as possible. But beware before you can go back to your gym schedules. You should always check with your doctor to rule out DR before you can actually work on your abs.

DR or diastasis recti is a condition in which the muscles holding your abdomen are separated. These are the muscles responsible for giving you a six pack. During LSCS surgeries your doctor cuts through the abdomen in seven layers. This needs time to heal completely. If you go for heavy exercises or weight training, the condition might deteriorate further. The muscles might take 4 to 6 months to heal completely and regain strength.

During this period one should focus on core strength exercises. Focus on the transverse abdominal muscles. Tucking in your tummy, doing pelvic floor exercises, heal slides might help during this period. Yoga, pilates and brisk walking will also help. Pranayam and a few asanas can also help regain shape and build up your core strength. Once your doctor gives you the go, you can always resume your weight training programme.
